How to choose right running shoes

When you’re staring at thousands of running shoes, it can seem a lot more complicated than it needs to be to chosse your perfect shoe. You just follow these two steps, you will find the right running shoe for you. Here are two steps: choose your cushion level and pick your arch type.

    There are 5 cushion levels:

Level 1 Cushioning: lightest, most flexible designs offer only a thin layer of minimal protection; Strengthen feet while running, training or walking;Feel barefoot while protecting feet.

Level 2 Cushioning: incredibly light, extremely flexible choice with just a touch of cushion and a minimal feel; Race, train, and feel connected to the road; Often used by highly competitive racers; Strengthen feet and practice form.

Level 3 Cushioning: perfect balance of lightweight, moderate cushion and flex; a fast, energetic feel for daily, tempo and race running; exact midpoint between cushion and quick natural feel; Ideal for expert runners or those looking for a tempo shoe.

Level 4 Cushioning: a high level of cushion and performance; Great for long or short daily running and racing; Versatile high mileage cushions.

Level 5 Cushioning:  maximum cushion and top-of-the- line technology;Perfect for daily high mileage running and max impact protection;Built for longer races like half marathons and full marathons; Also ideal for new runners or runners with larger frames.

    Arch Type & Flexibility

The height and flexibility of your arch affects the amount of support your feet need. The higher or less flexible your arches are, the less support you need. Shoes for higher arches are called Neutral. The lower or more flexible your arches are, the more support you need. Shoes for lower arches are called Stability.

If you have high arches that don’t flex very much, you typically stay on the outsides of your feet. Select a NEUTRAL shoe to guide lateral pressure inward by supporting your arch with cushion.

Most people (almost 80%) got flexible arches that cause  ankles to roll inward with each step. This is called pronation. Choose a STABILITY shoe to stabilize inward flex through midsole technology and arch support.

If you have low arches, your biomechanics are similar to the medium arch but more pronounced. Your highly-flexible feet angle inward so much that you have little to no arch. You’ll want a Level 5 STABILITY shoe with maximum support. You may also see these called MOTION CONTROL shoes.

When trying on a pair of shoes, pay attention to how you feel in them. They shouldn’t be too roomy or too snug, with adequate room in the toe box (about 1 centimeter between your toes and the top of the shoe is perfect). Shoes should also hold your ankle well. Anything too loose or too tight can lead to blisters and foot pain, so take a walk around in a pair you’re testing to make sure your foot feels right when you’re moving.

if you’re buying shoes online, read the return policy carefully to ensure you’ll be able to return them if it’s not a good fit. Focus on how you feel in your first run & many experts say that running shoes shouldn’t have to be broken in, but rather should feel great on your first run.

Top 9 Physical Benefits of Movement Everyday

health benefit of movement

Today so many people watch TV for long hours during day and night. Many people worked in office sit at a desk all the time during the day. The sedentary lifestyle now ingrained in our society is literally killing us. Researcher believe that sedentary lifestyle is the actual cause of the majority of human diseases. The only way to stay young at heart and strong is to get off the couch or step away from your electronic devices and move. It’s never too late to start exercising.  Here are top 9 major health improvements you are going to see in six months if you do exercise regularly.

  • Stronger Immune System. Studies find, with or without a vaccine, physical activity significantly reduces your risk of developing an infection. Every time you do exercise , it puts stress on your entire body, stimulating the release of certain immune system hormones and chemicals. You exercise moderately on a regular basis,  you are able to maintain a higher level of immune activity.  You can take for walk, ride a bike or play soccer to beneficial your general health. Something as gentle as the ancient Chinese martial art of tai chi can boost your immune system.
  • Lover risk of Alzheimer’s disease.  A long-term study that followed 1000 people for an average of 21 years found that just two rounds of leisure-time physical activity each week cut their risk of Alzheimer’s in half. Exercising just three or four times a week during a six-year period, one study found, reduced the risk of dementia by a third in older people compared to those who exercised less. Physical active people have healthier hippocampuses,  the part of th brain that controls higher thought and the part first affected by the physical changes that lead to Alzheimer’s .
  • Improve memory and cognition.  When you do exercise regularly,  you stimulate numerous areas, central nervous system and human growth hormone(HGH) in your brain. HGH triggers a hormonal and biochemical cascade that releases brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF), a hormone that helps your brain sprout new synapses. The more BDNF you have circulating in your brain, the greater your ability to learn and remember stuff. Simply walking for 30-45 min three days a week for 6 months can make a huge difference in the kind of mental acuity that allows you to be more attuned to the world around you. It can reduce the effects of a traumatic brain injury after a serious concussion.
  • Protect telomeres from damage. Exercise can protect our telomeres, the cap on the strands of our DNA, from the damage induced by stress, which makes it an important way to prevent aging. A study of women who were stressed out from her marriage showed that exercising regularly protected their telomere length. A study of middle-aged athletes showed that the telomeres in those who exercised were longer than the telomeres of those who didn’t.
  • Reduce stress and mood disorder. Stress is an inevitable part of life. Seven out of ten adults in north america say they experience stress or anxiety daily, and most say it interferes at least moderately with their lives, according to the most recent ADAA survey on stress and anxiety disorders.  Exercise is also considered vital for maintaining mental fitness, and it can reduce stress. Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins—chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers—and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress. Meditation, acupuncture, massage therapy, even breathing deeply can cause your body to produce endorphins.
  • Less abdominal fat.  Exercise is a factor in reducing the size of fat cells around your abdomen, the so-called visceral fat.  It’s associated with metabolic syndrome, increases your risk of heart disease as well as diabetes. Only cutting calories won’t shrink those fat cells. You must add exercise to your daily life. A study found that while diet alone and diet plus exercise reduced total and abdominal fat in overweight women to the same degree, only exercise reduced blood levels of chronic inflammation marker like C-reactive protein and interleukin-6.
  • More muscle strength.  Exercise can make you stronger.  Exercise your arms ,and carrying groceries becomes easy.  Exercise your legs, and walking becomes faster. The more muscle you have, the better your cells use insulin and take in glucose. Those two factors play a major role in inflammation, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes, and behind many of the health-related benefits of exercise and it’s ability to keep you feeling young as you age.
  • Improve self-esteem.  Self-esteem, simpley how you feel about yourself, can play a major role in your health and quality of life. If you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to live a healthier lifestyle, to remain active, to interact socially, and to take part in social activities. Exercise helps maintain self-esteem in older people. A study showed changes in self-esteem in overweight women ages 60-80 who participated in either a stretching and toning exercise program or walking exercise program for 6 months. Both programs enhanced their self-esteem.
  • Reduce menopause symptoms. If you do exercise 3 -4 hours a week, you will reduce sever hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, increasing a woman’s overall quality of life.  One study showed  half of the exercising group had severe symptoms when they began working out. After one year, just around 37 percent had symptom. The percentage of women with severe menopausal symtoms in a control group that didn’t exercise rose from 55 to 68 percent.

It’s never too late to begin exercising.  Exercise increase muscle mass and muscle strength , which is important to longevity. That’s because the amount of muscle you have affects every function in your body. Maintain good muscle tone, and you will gain less weight, less body fat, and prevent insulin resistance.  Your LDL cholersterol and blood sugar levels will be lower, and your HDL cholesterol levels will be higher. Your heart keep healthy, improve your sleep, and reduces your risk of depression and memory lapses.  Just a few weeks of regular, moderate to high intensity physical activity each day , and health measure is likely to improve-no matter what your age.

Kombucha Tea Health benefits

kombucha health benefits

What is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a living health beverage made by fermenting tea and sugar with the kombucha culture, which contains a colony of bacteria and yeast that are responsible for initiating the fermentation process once combined with sugar.

Due to the fermentation process involved in creating kombucha, it contains a large number of healthy bacteria known as probiotics which benefit your digestive tract and leaky gut, support your immune system, fight infection and illness.

Kombucha was known as “The Tea of Immortality”, which originated in the Far East, probably China, and has been consumed there for at least two thousand years. It has been used in Eastern Europe, Russia and Japan for several centuries.

The Kombucha Culture

The Kombucha culture looks like a rubbery pancake. It’s often called a ‘scoby’ which stands for ‘ symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts.  The culture is placed in sweetened black or green tea and digests the sugar and produces a range of organic acids like gluconic acid, lactic acid, aceic acid, usnic Acid, butyric acid; probiotic microorganisms; B vitamins and vitamin C; as well as amino acids, enzymes and minerals. The yeasts do produce alcohol but the bacteria in the culture turn the alcohol to organic acids. Only a very little quantities of alcohol, typically 1% by volume remains in the kombucha brew.

With every brew you make the kombucha forms a new layer or scoby on the surface of the liquid. You might want to pass on spare kombucha cultures to friends. If properly taken care of, a SCOBY can last for many years. You can find kombucha for $3-5 at natural health food stores . You can make your kombucha at home. I made my homemade kombucha at home last year. It tastes very good and scobys are very healthy. Kombucha is a healthier substitute for sodas and sugary drinks. You can use black tea, green tea, white tea with lemon or ginger root to make homemade kombucha.

Kombucha health benefits

  • Contains antioxidant.  Antioxidants reduce oxidative stress that can damage cells, even down to DNA. Kombucha specifically influence the activity of two important antioxidants known as glutathione peroxidase and catalase. It was also discovered to contain isorhamnetin, a metabolite of quercetin. Quercetin is associated with a long lifespan and massive anticancer properties.
  • Improving Digestion.  Kombucha supports digestion is because of its high levels of beneficial acid, probiotics, amino acids and enzymes. Kombucha also help heal candida from overpopulating within the gut by restoring balance to the digestive system.  Probiotic cultures help the gut to repopulate with good bacteria and crowdout the candida yeast.
  • Surport healthy liver.  Glucuronic acid is one of the significant constituents of Kombucha and the body’s most important detoxifier. When toxins enter the liver this acid binds them to it and flushes them out through the kidneys.
  • Support Joint Health.   Another by-product of glucuronic acid are the glucosamines, the structures associated with cartilage, collagen and the fluids which lubricate the joints. It is this function that makes Kombucha so effective against arthritis.
  • Help improve mental health.  Kombucha not only  help your digestion but also help your mental health.  Kombucha contains B vitamins and increase energy levels and contribute to overall mental wellbeing.
  • General antibiotic effect.  Usnic Acid is a  natural antibiotic that can be effective against many viruses.  This type of bacteria found in kombucha, drinking the live cultures actually destroys bad bacteria responsible for infections.
  • Increased energy. Oxalic Acid is one of organic acid which acts as an effective preservative and encourages the intercellular production of energy.

Side effect:   Because of the acidity of kombucha, you should prevent damaging your teeth by drinking it at one sitting and swishing water in your mouth after you’re finished. Do not bush your teeth right way after kombucha.

When you make kombucha at home, you should aware of contamination. Always use sterile equipment, clean working spaces and high-quality ingredients.

A small percentage of people experience bloating when drinking kombucha. Because kombucha has a high level of acidity, it’s possible that this can cause problems for people with digestive problems like stomach ulcers, or sensitivity to very acidic foods. Just start drinking a small amount in moderation and see  if you have any negative reactions to it.

How to make kombucha at home

Making your own kombucha at home is not complexed and have fun. The Kombucha is brewed with a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Yeast and Bacteria) that “eats” the sugars in the sweetened tea and creates an acidic, vitamin and probiotic rich beverage.  You can order a SCOBY online or you can grow your own SCOBY which takes longer time.

Grow your own kombucha SCOBY

Many stores sell raw organic bottled kombucha tea. Just remember to buy a original organic bottled kombucha tea. I bought mine from whole foods store and costed about $2-3. I have been brewing my kombucha at home for a few years.

Follow this steps for growing your own SCOBY

Ingredients:

  • A bottled raw organic original kombucha tea.
  • A clean glass cup
  • A wooden spoon for stirring
  • White sugar
  • A organic black tea bag
  • A thin cloth or coffee filter and a rubber band.

Instructions:

  • Boil one cup filtered Water and add one organic black tea bag in a glass jar.
  • Add one and half table spoon white sugar. You can use cane sugar but by using white sugar can get better results. Let black tea cool down completely to room temperature. Use a wooden spoon to take off the black tea bag.
  • Pour raw organic original kombucha tea to black tea.
  • Cover the jar with coffee filter with a rubber band
  • Place the tea out of sun light at room temperature.
  • After a week, it is common to see a baby SCOBY developing across the surface of the liquid. A new SCOBY starts off as a clear film, then slowly become less translucent, more white, and thicker as time goes on. It will take 30 days to reach at least 1/4 inch  thick before to use it for brewing the first batch of kombucha tea.

Make kombucha tea with kombucha tea starter cultures(SCOBY)

Ingredients

  • A half gallon size  glass jar. Make sure it’s very clean. it’s better to wash with baking soda or vinegar.
  • A wooden spoon for stirring
  •  3 or 4 organic black tea bags ( you can use green tea)
  • 1/2 cup White sugar (ratio: 1 cup of sugar per gallon of tea)
  • a SCOBY and 1 cup of liquid from a previous batch of Kombucha
  • A thin cloth or coffee filter and a rubber band.

Instructions:

  • Boil filter water. Combine hot water, tea bags and white sugar to dissolve. Make sure to leave a couple of inches of room at the top of the jar.
  • Let tea completely cool down to room temperature.
  • Remove tea bags with a wooden spoon.
  • Add an active kombucha SCOBY.
  • Cover the jar with coffee filter and secure with  a rubber band.
  • Put the jar in the corner of kitchen counter ,out of direct sunlight.
  • let it sit to ferment about 7-10 days. The longer the kombucha ferments, the less sweet and more vinegary it will taste.
  • Pour kombucha  into smaller glass bottles and refrigerate it. Retain the SCOBY and enough liquid from the bottom of the jar to use as starter tea for the next batch.

When the  fermentation process happens, you will notice that the SCOBY disk “grows” a second SCOBY disk, also called baby SCOBY. You can actually use the newly formed baby SCOBY to create a  new batch of kombucha. You can pass on your extra baby SCOBYs to your friends. The mother SCOBY can keep fermenting new kombucha batches for about another month after its first use but will then become inactive and should be thrown away.

How To Heal Leaky Gut Naturally

leaky gut healing food
leaky gut healing food

Leaky gut syndrome is our inner ecosystem which is toxic and diseased. While this creates stress on the intestinal lining, it also sets the body up for imbalances in the immune system (like autoimmune disease) and severe forms of degeneration. Millions of people (including me) are struggling with and don’t even know it.  Leaky gut not only causes digestive discomfort but can trigger food allergies, sinus infections, swollen joints, and skin rashes. From my experience and research, I am going to show you how to heal leaky gut naturally.

  • stay away from all grains,  especially ones that contain gluten like wheat(bread, cereal, pasta, pizza, cookies, crackers, cakes, muffins contain wheat).Gluten is hard to digest, pierces holes in our gut lining and partially digested protein and fat can seep through your intestinal lining, making their way into your bloodstream and causing an allergic response. Cut grains and legumes(including Rice (white & brown), oats, corn AND beans, lentils, peas, peanuts, spelt, hummus and soy. temporarily.  Once your gut is healthy, you can add back in grains that have been fermented and sprouted to eat occasionally. Fermenting and sprouting grains reduces phytates and lectins, making these foods easier to digest. Try to consume coconut flour and almond flour which are gluten free and good for your gut.
  • Add healing foods to your regular diet. Bone broth:  Chicken or beef bone broth contain collagen and the amino acids proline and glycine that can help heal your damaged cell walls. I usually make chicken bone broth every week. It really help heal leaky gut and skin rash.
  • Consume Raw Cultured Dairy and Cut out all the sugar. Excessive sugar and sugary products like sodas, sweets, desserts consumption fuel the growth of candida and bad bacteria in your gut, which will further damage your gut.
You’ll find a protein called A1 Casein in normal cows milk which harm your gut. The pasteurization process kills the enzymes your body needs to digest the food itself. No butter, no milk, no chocolate, no ice cream, no cheese put on your diet. But you can buy or make your own Gee butter at home which is good for your gut. It’s better to buy dairy that is raw and from A2 cows, goats, sheep, or buffalo.
  • Consume Fermented Vegetables – contain organic acids that balance intestinal pH and probiotics to support the gut. Sauerkraut, kimchi and kvass are excellent sources. You can make these stuffs at home by your own. I usually make homemade kimchi and kvass at home regularly.
  • consuming foods that have omega-3 fats are beneficial. Anti-inflammatory foods like grass-fed beef, lamb and wild-caught fish like salmon will benefit your gut. Do not consume canola oil, corn oil and peanut oil. They are high process oil and cause inflammatory on your body. What is a leaky gut syndrome?

What is a leaky gut?

The leaky gut is an aggravated digestive tract that begins to “leak” particles, bacteria and other substances into the bloodstream. If you imagine the lining of your digestive tract as a net with extremely small holes, then you know that “net” can only allow certain items pass through. The mesh blocks larger things, while allowing smaller items to pass right through. Your gut lining works in a very similar way. It has a barrier that keeps bigger particles out, while still allowing nutrients and other minerals through.

But if your digestive tract gets damaged, that can lead to bigger holes in your gut’s “net.” After that, foodstuffs, bacteria and other invaders that normally wouldn’t pass through does. Proteins like gluten, bad bacteria and undigested foods particles all “leak” through once a gut is inflamed. Once leaked, these toxic items can get into your bloodstream causing an immune reaction.

Leaky gut symptom:

  • Food Sensitivities
  • Bloating
  • Autoimmune Disease
  • Thyroid Problems
  • Malabsorption
  • Inflammatory Skin Conditions

What Foods Cause Leaky Gut?

Chronic stress:  It weakens your immune system over time, which cripples your ability to fight off foreign invaders like bad bacteria and viruses. That’s why it’s very important to reduce stress, get more sleep and meditate on daily basis and hang out with positive, uplifting people.

Toxins:  Antibiotics, pesticides, tap water, aspirin and NSAIDS cause leaky gut. At home  you should use  a high-quality water filter to eliminate chlorine and fluoride and look to natural plant-based herbs to reduce inflammation in your body.

Leaky Gut relate the Brain health

A child with autism experience a mood swing, this can be caused by intestinal permeability. Gluten-free and casein-free diets have proven effective for many children with autism because these proteins can leak through the gut and then recirculate and act on the brain similarly to an opioid drug. Also leaky gut syndrome has been linked to other psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. If  you have happy gut, you will have happy brain.
